COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
We love our community partnerships!
Whether we’re producing the annual Corte Madera Show, working with neurodiverse student-artists at the Open Mind School, mentoring aspiring teachers with disabilities from Branch Services, or teaching residencies at local schools, we always love connecting with burgeoning artists in and around the San Francisco Peninsula.
Explore our current and ongoing partnerships below.
Corte Madera School
-
Since 2018, PVTC has produced the annual Corte Madera show featuring participants in grades 4-8.
Each year, PVTC staff work with Corte Madera students, faculty, and parent volunteers to bring a full production to fruition. Students can choose to be part of the cast or crew. Those who choose the latter are heavily involved in the design and creation of sets, props, and costumes. We alternate between a play and a musical every other year.
So far, we have collaborated on Shrek JR. (2018), Almost History (2019), The Little Mermaid JR. (2020), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2022), Spamalot (2023), and The Super Non-Heroes (2024)!
Ormondale School
-
At Ormondale, PVTC offers in-class residencies to help ignite young artists’ bodies, voices, and imagination. Through process drama in which students become involved in narratives through in-role improvisation, month-long workshop-style classes that develop basic actor instincts, and even original script development, PVTC loves working with Ormondale’s TK-3rd graders to enrich their academic experiences with theatre arts.
Society of Young Inklings
-
The Society of Young Inklings — founded and led by longtime PVTC supporter and team member Naomi Kinsman — helps young writers develop their creative voices through providing access to skill-building classes and connecting youth with mentor authors and networks of supportive peers. In the past, PVTC has partnered with the Society of Young Inklings in a variety of ways. We can’t wait to see what we dream up together next!
OPEN MIND SCHOOL
-
In the summer of 2023, students at Open Mind School (an inclusive, year-round, tK-12 school) worked with PVTC staff and interns to create an original show inspired by the Disability Justice picture book We Move Together that they performed on the PVTC stage. This fall, Maddie is returning to Open Mind School for a theater residency to help students further develop as artists and storytellers.
Branch Services
-
Since 2022, PVTC has worked with Branch Services, a local combination residential and day program for adults with disabilities, to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities, mentorship for aspiring teachers and artists, and classes in acting and play development. This fall, several Branch participants will join PVTC as teaching assistants and others will participate in a play development class.
All Five
-
PVTC partners with All Five, an equity-focused early childhood education center in East Menlo Park, to provide youth ages 0-5 with access to joyful, creative, theatrical learning opportunities, regardless of their family’s background. Typically, we produce several annual events with All Five.
